Have you ever made a promise to someone that you regret making. Whether it is not being able to find time to do something or realizing that what you promised is really impossible for you to follow through on. Your mind begins to be consumed with regret. You look for h excuses on how to tell the person. In the end the feeling of dissapointment enslaves you.
In 2 Peter 2 we find the conversation about False Prophets continue to unfold. Without going into to much detail the message of these teachers were leading people away from the freedom the Christ came to offer. Verse 17 says that “these men are springs without water….they mouth empty words….and entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error.”
Later in verse 20 we see that the end product is people backsliding back into a life of being a slave to sin and discovering the regret of leaving a life of freedom in Christ. Making a promise to Christ and learning to live in freedom but falling away from the truth back into a life of sin enslaves a person worse then they were in the first place.
We must always find ourselves in a place where are eyes are fixed on Jesus and HIS truth and away from the deception that the devil and the world has to offer. Do not return to your vomit as verse 22 goes on to say…it taste pretty gross.
