Finding himself in Prison in Rome Paul signs the letter to Colosse with “Remember my Chains.” I can just imagine what Paul was thinking as he writes this knowing that he is not a free man. Being under house arrest Paul is no longer free to preach the GOOD NEWS wherever he chooses.
The picture Paul paints of Jesus in Colossians was one that saw Jesus as the fullness of God. All creation have been made through HIM and we are now under HIS authority to live out life in Community the way that HE wants us to. We are now united to GOD through JESUS, and through this we have a better understanding of what it means to worship HIM as the church. In a way Paul suggests that we are slaves to our MASTER in HEAVEN.
Since Paul is now a slave to the home he is in prayer that He can continue to find ways to inspire a community of believers to pray for each other and continue the work. Colossians 4:3 is a beautiful example of how earnestly Paul desires to continue the work. “Pray for us, too, that God may give us as MANY OPPORTUNITIES to speak about his mysterious plan concerning Christ. THAT IS WHY I AM IN CHAINS.”
Oh to have the same desire as the APOSTLES PAUL to reach into our community without fear of cost or persecution. How can we as a church get to the point where everything we worry about is not what we desire but what God desires…to have the GOOD NEWS heard in the community around us….reminding people that the picture of Jesus being creator of all things in the fullness of GOD.
