Every high priest…is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God…

I have weaknesses (I know, you’re shocked) and my sins and shortcomings tempt me to stop believing in God’s presence and power in my life.

This is the deceitful, heart-hardening trickery of sin mentioned in chapter 3. Such unbelief we are told can cause us to actually turn away from the living God.

But here’s the remedy the enables us to press on and enter the rest of a God-filled life: We have a high priest standing on our behalf in heaven itself. He experienced the full depth and diversity of my depravity. He suffered for it as I never will. He is now the source of eternal salvation.

So, with all my weaknesses I will walk out into this day, will defy the deceitfulness of sin and will keep obeying.
